This course equips dance educators with practical strategies for teaching ballet to students of varying abilities, backgrounds, and skill levels. Participants will explore ballet fundamentals and adaptations for different learning styles, while fostering creativity, discipline, and self-expression through movement.

Instructor: Cathy Allen
An hour-and-a-half technique class delving into the philosophy and execution of teaching body awareness of the spine through the sagittal, transverse (frontal), and horizontal planes. Limon, Cunningham, and some Nikolais techniques will be the foundation of this technique class. An emphasis on the elements of dance, spatial focus, timing, and articulation will be incorporated into the teaching of technique. Other elements such as graining and tail/head connection theories will be introduced. Teaching these elements gives the CCSD students tools for achieving intentional movement based on awareness of self in space and time with varying tensions.

This course will provide a survey of the role of the African-American in the development of dance in America. Special focus is placed on artists and their contributions in the areas of ballet, jazz, modern and tap.

Classes in Ballet, Pointe and Partnering, Pilates, Jazz (Contemporary and Hip Hop).

Recommended for intermediate to advanced dancers.

UNLV students of technique level 300 and 400 are welcomed to participate, with a discounted price of $100.

Ballet slippers required for intermediate dancers; pointe shoes required for advanced students.

Jazz shoes required.

Close to the Las Vegas Strip.

Workshops from 8am - 4pm with a 45 minute break for lunch each day.

The mat training course focuses on the history of Pilates' theory and technique through mat work.
